Cookies with Attitude

About a month ago I was sitting in a Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators meeting when a cookie "cook off" was announced. Being comfortable with shameless self promotion, I thought "How can I make cookies that display my art"? A plan was hatched! I figured if I baked butter cookies, cut them into circles, covered them with icing, I might be able to paint them with food coloring. Crazy as it seems, it worked like a charm! (Except for the batch of cooked icing that turned into cement - I am still trying to get it out of the bowl - seriously - it's hard as rock). Good news! I won the "Most Creative" prize for the cookies! What a fun project.

For those of you at the meeting who might want the recipe, I will post it in the next day or two. Thanks!

Lida! Those cookies are so incredible! - showed my co-worker, and he said they're too beautiful to eat. I don't know about that, being a cookie monster myself. Congratulations on your win! Ant.

Thanks for sharing, Lida. The cookies were beatiful and delicious and it was not at all hard to choose your cookie for most-creative prize! I brought one home for my daughters to share(I have a little artist in my home) and they loved it, in more ways than one. :) Will look forward to the recipe.

Followed the link from Holly's cookies to yours. My girls and I used to paint sugar cookies before they were baked with evaporated milk mixed with food coloring. They look like stained glass when you're done. Except we couldn't get white. So I know they'll be interested!

Thank you, Susan and Jolie for your comments!

Jolie, you have no idea how excited I am that I won that prize! I put a ribbon on the trophy and hung it on the Christmas tree :)

Susan - I love the idea of stained glass-looking cookies! Maybe I'll try that next year... Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to meeting the two of you soon!
