Kids Art Classes

I LOVE TEACHING ART!
I get great satisfaction being around kids and helping them feel comfortable creating, exploring new ideas, learning new talents and persevering through challenges. And, I especially love helping my students recognize and fully accept that "mistakes" are wonderful opportunities for creative problem solving. I have taught students as young as five years old to college-aged "kids". I have created curriculums for many of the classes I have taught. I am happy to customize a "stand alone" curriculum or one that works in conjunction with an existing curriculum.

I am currently available for Teaching Artist Residences as well as shorter term art lessons. Please email me at lida(at)lidaenche(dot)com to get more information. Thank you!

Below are a few photos of my undergraduate Seattle Pacific University students with their - from observation - super-sized self portraits. I loved doing this project with them because they had to acknowledge and overcome their fear of making large-sized mistakes. Once this project was completed, working on a average-sized project wasn't nearly as scary. They had to work very hard to complete this assignment and were rightfully proud of what they accomplished!

Below are some photos of just a few of my younger student's art projects. As you can see - when I teach, everyone has a great time - including myself!
What's the difference between looking and seeing? Once you know the difference, you become a "see-er" for the rest of your life! I challenged my students with the task of really seeing a flower. I asked them to look very closely and make these paintings much larger than life to encourage close observation. This 4th Grade lesson was taught at Alki Elementary School.

Crazy Coneheads! This was a super creative and fun Summer camp that I taught in conjunction with Seattle Parks and Recreation at the Alki Bathhouse. The theatricality of this project cannot be denied - as the kids absolutely loved wearing and creating their hats. So much so that we put on an impromptu show for the parents!

What color is the sound of a trumpet? What do emotions look like on paper? What sound do colors make? These were a few of the challenging questions I asked my students. I taught my students about the abstract painter, Kandinsky, and how he saw pictures when he listened to music. So, I turned up the Jazz, and we opened our minds to exploring what that music might look like in the form of an abstract painting. This 4th Grade lesson was taught at Alki Elementary School.

This was a "Make Your Own Jewelry" Summer camp that I taught in conjunction with Seattle Parks and Recreation at the Alki Bathhouse. In this camp, I taught my students how to make a variety of beads and pendants - including recycled paper beads. We then transformed the beads into beautiful jewelry and had an art opening where the kids were able to present their creations to the community.

If Mona Lisa were living today, how would she be different than in DaVinci's famous painting? I talked with my students about how different life is now from when the famous mystery lady was alive and what she might be like today. This 4th Grade lesson was taught at Alki Elementary School.

My students and I studied the eccentric characters the sculptor, Alexander Calder, expertly created out of wire and challenged my students to come up with their own wild and and wonderful people. This 4th Grade lesson was taught at Alki Elementary School.

A wonderful self portrait by one of my 7 year old students.

Art makes kids happy - its as simple as that.

The undeniable joy of paint covered hands.
